1CThe burden4853 of the word1697 of the Lord3068 to Israel3478 by3027 Malachi.
2C I have loved157 you, saith5002 the Lord.3068 Yet ye say,559 Wherein hast thou loved157 us? Was not Esau6215 Jacob's3290 brother?251 saith559 the Lord:3068 yet I loved157 Jacob,
3 And I hated8130 Esau,6215 and laid7760 his mountains2022 and his heritage5159 waste8077 for the dragons8568 of the wilderness.
4C Whereas Edom123 saith,559 We are impoverished,7567 but we will return7725 and build1129 the desolate places;2723 thus saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts,6635 They shall build,1129 but I will throw down;2040 and they shall call7121 them, The border1366 of wickedness,7564 and, The people5971 against whom the Lord3068 hath indignation2194 for5704 ever.
5 And your eyes5869 shall see,7200 and ye shall say,559 The Lord3068 will be magnified1431 from the border1366 of Israel.
6C A son1121 honoureth3513 his father,1 and a servant5650 his master:113 if then I be a father,1 where is mine honour?3519 and if I be a master,113 where is my fear?4172 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts6635 unto you, O priests,3548 that despise959 my name.8034 And ye say,559 Wherein have we despised959 thy name?
7C Ye offer5066 polluted1351 bread3899 upon mine altar;4196 and ye say,559 Wherein have we polluted1351 thee? In that ye say,559 The table7979 of the Lord3068 is contemptible.
8C And if ye offer5066 the blind5787 for sacrifice,2076 is it not evil?7451 and if ye offer5066 the lame6455 and sick,2470 is it not evil?7451 offer7126 it now unto thy governor;6346 will he be pleased7521 with thee, or accept5375 thy person?6440 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
9C And now, I pray you, beseech24706440 God410 that he will be gracious2603 unto us: this hath been by your means:3027 will he regard5375 your persons?6440 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
10C Who is there even among you that would shut5462 the doors1817 for nought? neither do ye kindle215 fire on mine altar4196 for nought.2600 I have no pleasure2656 in you, saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts,6635 neither will I accept7521 an offering4503 at your hand.
11C For from the rising4217 of the sun8121 even unto the going down3996 of the same my name8034 shall be great1419 among the Gentiles;1471 and in every place4725 incense6999 shall be offered5066 unto my name,8034 and a pure2889 offering:4503 for my name8034 shall be great1419 among the heathen,1471 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
12 But ye have profaned2490 it, in that ye say,559 The table7979 of the Lord3068 is polluted;1351 and the fruit5108 thereof, even his meat,400 is contemptible.
13C Ye said559 also, Behold, what a weariness4972 is it! and ye have snuffed5301 at it, saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts;6635 and ye brought935 that which was torn,1497 and the lame,6455 and the sick;2470 thus ye brought935 an offering:4503 should I accept7521 this of your hand?3027 saith559 the Lord.
14 But cursed779 be the deceiver,5230 which3426 hath in his flock5739 a male,2145 and voweth,5087 and sacrificeth2076 unto the Lord136 a corrupt thing:7843 for I am a great1419 King,4428 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts,6635 and my name8034 is dreadful3372 among the heathen.
2And now, O ye priests,3548 this commandment
2 If ye will not hear,8085 and if ye will not lay7760 it to heart,3820 to give5414 glory3519 unto my name,8034 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts,6635 I will even send7971 a curse3994 upon you, and I will curse779 your blessings:1293 yea, I have cursed779 them already, because ye do not lay7760 it to heart.
3 Behold, I will corrupt1605 your seed,2233 and spread2219 dung6569 upon your faces,6440 even the dung6569 of your solemn feasts;2282 and one shall take you away
4 And ye shall know3045 that I have sent7971 this commandment4687 unto you, that my covenant1285 might be with Levi,3878 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
5C My covenant1285 was with him of life2416 and peace;7965 and I gave5414 them to him for the fear4172 wherewith he feared3372 me, and was afraid2865 before6440 my name.
6 The law8451 of truth571 was in his mouth,6310 and iniquity5766 was not found4672 in his lips:8193 he walked1980 with me in peace7965 and equity,4334 and did turn7725 many7227 away7725 from iniquity.
7 For the priest's3548 lips8193 should keep8104 knowledge,1847 and they should seek1245 the law8451 at his mouth:6310 for he is the messenger4397 of the Lord3068 of hosts.
8 But ye are departed5493 out of the way;1870 ye have caused many7227 to stumble3782 at the law;8451 ye have corrupted7843 the covenant1285 of Levi,3878 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
9 Therefore have I also made5414 you contemptible959 and base8217 before all the people,5971 according6310 as ye have not kept8104 my ways,1870 but have been partial53756440 in the law.
10 Have we not all one259 father?1 hath not one259 God410 created1254 us? why do we deal treacherously898 every man376 against his brother,251 by profaning2490 the covenant1285 of our fathers?
11C Judah3063 hath dealt treacherously,898 and an abomination8441 is committed6213 in Israel3478 and in Jerusalem;3389 for Judah3063 hath profaned2490 the holiness6944 of the Lord3068 which he loved,157 and hath married1166 the daughter1323 of a strange5236 god.
12 The Lord3068 will cut off3772 the man376 that doeth6213 this, the master5782 and the scholar,6030 out of the tabernacles168 of Jacob,3290 and him that offereth5066 an offering4503 unto the Lord3068 of hosts.
13 And this have ye done6213 again,8145 covering3680 the altar4196 of the Lord3068 with tears,1832 with weeping,1065 and with crying out,603 insomuch that he regardeth6437 not the offering4503 any more, or receiveth3947 it with good will7522 at your hand.
14 Yet ye say,559 Wherefore?4100 Because the Lord3068 hath been witness5749 between thee and the wife802 of thy youth,5271 against whom thou hast dealt treacherously:898 yet is she thy companion,2278 and the wife802 of thy covenant.
15C And did not he make6213 one?259 Yet had he the residue7605 of the spirit.7307 And wherefore one?259 That he might seek1245 a godly430 seed.2233 Therefore take heed8104 to your spirit,7307 and let none deal treacherously898 against the wife802 of his youth.
16 For the Lord,3068 the God430 of Israel,3478 saith559 that he hateth8130 putting away:7971 for one covereth3680 violence2555 with his garment,3830 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts:6635 therefore take heed8104 to your spirit,7307 that ye deal not treacherously.
17 Ye have wearied3021 the Lord3068 with your words.1697 Yet ye say,559 Wherein have we wearied3021 him? When ye say,559 Every one that doeth6213 evil7451 is good2896 in the sight5869 of the Lord,3068 and he delighteth2654 in them; or, Where is the God430 of judgment?
3CBehold, I will send7971 my messenger,4397 and he shall prepare6437 the way1870 before6440 me: and the Lord,113 whom ye seek,1245 shall suddenly6597 come935 to his temple,1964 even the messenger4397 of the covenant,1285 whom ye delight2655 in: behold, he shall come,935 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
2C But who may abide3557 the day3117 of his coming?935 and who shall stand5975 when he appeareth?7200 for he is like a refiner's6884 fire,784 and like fullers'3526 soap:
3C And he shall sit3427 as a refiner6884 and purifier2891 of silver:3701 and he shall purify2891 the sons1121 of Levi,3878 and purge2212 them as gold2091 and silver,3701 that they may offer5066 unto the Lord3068 an offering4503 in righteousness.
4C Then shall the offering4503 of Judah3063 and Jerusalem3389 be pleasant6149 unto the Lord,3068 as in the days3117 of old,5769 and as in former6931 years.
5C And I will come near7126 to you to judgment;4941 and I will be a swift4116 witness5707 against the sorcerers,3784 and against the adulterers,5003 and against false8267 swearers,7650 and against those that oppress6231 the hireling7916 in his wages,7939 the widow,490 and the fatherless,3490 and that turn aside5186 the stranger1616 from his right, and fear3372 not me, saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
6C For I am the Lord,3068 I change8138 not; therefore ye sons1121 of Jacob3290 are not consumed.
7C Even from the days3117 of your fathers1 ye are gone away5493 from mine ordinances,2706 and have not kept8104 them. Return7725 unto me, and I will return7725 unto you, saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.6635 But ye said,559 Wherein shall we return?
8C Will a man120 rob6906 God?430 Yet ye have robbed6906 me. But ye say,559 Wherein have we robbed6906 thee? In tithes4643 and offerings.
9C Ye are cursed779 with a curse:3994 for ye have robbed6906 me, even this whole nation.
10C Bring935 ye all the tithes4643 into the storehouse,214 that there may be meat2964 in mine house,1004 and prove974 me now herewith,2063 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts,6635 if I will not open6605 you the windows699 of heaven,8064 and pour you out7324 a blessing,1293 that there shall not be room enough
11C And I will rebuke1605 the devourer398 for your sakes, and he shall not destroy7843 the fruits6529 of your ground;127 neither shall your vine1612 cast her fruit7921 before the time in the field,7704 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
12 And all nations1471 shall call you blessed:833 for ye shall be a delightsome2656 land,776 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
13C Your words1697 have been stout2388 against me, saith559 the Lord.3068 Yet ye say,559 What have we spoken
14C Ye have said,559 It is vain7723 to serve5647 God:430 and what profit1215 is it that we have kept8104 his ordinance,4931 and that we have walked1980 mournfully6941 before6440 the Lord3068 of hosts?
15C And now we call833 the proud2086 happy;833 yea, they that work6213 wickedness7564 are set up;1129 yea, they that tempt974 God430 are even delivered.
16C Then they that feared3373 the Lord3068 spake often1696 one376 to another:7453 and the Lord3068 hearkened,7181 and heard8085 it, and a book5612 of remembrance2146 was written3789 before6440 him for them that feared3373 the Lord,3068 and that thought2803 upon his name.
17C And they shall be mine, saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts,6635 in that day3117 when I make up6213 my jewels;5459 and I will spare2550 them, as a man376 spareth2550 his own son1121 that serveth
18C Then shall ye return,7725 and discern7200 between the righteous6662 and the wicked,7563 between him that serveth5647 God430 and him that serveth
4CFor, behold, the day3117 cometh,935 that shall burn1197 as an oven;8574 and all the proud,2086 yea, and all that do6213 wickedly,7564 shall be stubble:7179 and the day3117 that cometh935 shall burn them up,3857 saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts,6635 that it shall leave5800 them neither root8328 nor branch.
2C But unto you that fear3373 my name8034 shall the Sun8121 of righteousness6666 arise2224 with healing4832 in his wings;3671 and ye shall go forth,3318 and grow up6335 as calves5695 of the stall.
3C And ye shall tread down6072 the wicked;7563 for they shall be ashes665 under the soles3709 of your feet7272 in the day3117 that I shall do6213 this, saith559 the Lord3068 of hosts.
4C Remember2142 ye the law8451 of Moses4872 my servant,5650 which I commanded6680 unto him in Horeb2722 for all Israel,3478 with the statutes2706 and judgments.
5C Behold, I will send7971 you Elijah452 the prophet5030 before6440 the coming935 of the great1419 and dreadful3372 day3117 of the Lord:
6C And he shall turn7725 the heart3820 of the fathers1 to the children,1121 and the heart3820 of the children1121 to their fathers,1 lest I come935 and smite5221 the earth776 with a curse.
